Presentation of the Riolan Canyoning Route

The Riolan Canyon, or 'Clue de Riolan', originates in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in the municipality of La Rochette at an altitude of over 1100m. It flows across the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Alpes-Maritimes departments for more than 11km.

It becomes a tributary of the Estéron river, flowing at the foot of the village of Sallagrifon and the picturesque village of Aiglun at an altitude of 398m.

Located in the Grasse and Cannes hinterland, less than an hour’s drive near the villages of Roquestéron, Sigale, and Aiglun, you will reach this canyon by travelling through one of the wildest valleys in the department: the Estéron Valley.

This canyon is perfectly suited for practising abseiling, jumping into natural pools, and swimming through long stretches of turquoise water interspersed with short walks and natural slides.

It is the perfect location to refresh yourself, recharge your batteries, and experience a day rich in emotions.

The Estéron Valley

The Estéron is a river over 60 km long located in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Alpes-Maritimes departments of France. It is the third-largest tributary of the Var and has its source at 1600m altitude beneath Mont Teillon.

Its waters are clear, cool, and well-oxygenated, with quality varying along its course. The river runs through several villages and is fed by several tributaries, such as the Riolan.

The Estéron Valley is known for its preserved nature and spectacular landscapes, making it a prime location for hiking and canyoning.

Descending the Riolan with Adrenaline 06

You will experience intense sensations accompanied by a professional in the field.

This canyon flows over a distance of approximately 2500m and occasionally winds between two limestone walls that reach over 150m in height in places. Known for its geological beauty and its swims through magnificent, long meanders interspersed with jumps, abseils, and slides, this canyon is a benchmark in our department. Here, there is no risk of encountering rafts or kayakers.

From the moment you are taken in charge by your state-qualified guide, they will communicate technical instructions as you progress through the canyon, ensuring you can enjoy yourself without making safety errors in this raw, non-sanitised natural environment.

We will, of course, take a break during this beautiful day for a packed lunch in a naturally stunning setting, conditions permitting.

All the beauty and diversity of this canyon will make you forget the slightly longer drive, which simultaneously allows you to discover our 'Moyen Pays' (middle country), its picturesque villages, and narrow valleys.

At the exit of the canyon, we can dine at a café-restaurant in the village of Roquestéron or Aiglun if you wish, before hitting the road again to discover beautiful landscapes and charming villages.

A sporty day designed to let you escape and cool off despite the enchanting sun of our beautiful region.

Geology, Fauna, and Flora

The Estéron Valley, located in the Alpes-Maritimes, was formed long ago when layers of sedimentary terrain were deposited. The limestone has been transformed over time by erosion, forming these superb natural playgrounds, such as pools and slides.

The Estéron Valley possesses a rich and sensitive fauna and flora, which must be protected to ensure their long-term survival.
